On this page and its relatives
you will find an account of the transport research activities of yours
faithfully. It contains general descriptions of some ongoing as well as
finished projects/research areas, references to the papers produced, and
planned future activities. You will also find various as yet unpublished papers
of my own on the subjects discussed, available for download in pdf-format.
Papers marked 'beta-version' may not be quoted without permission, as they may
have been reworked or accepted for publication since the last update of the
webpage. Published material is usually only available upon request, due to
copyright. Finally, there are some links to other traffic
research/transportation sites of interest.
All comments, questions etc regarding these pages and their content are
welcomed and should be addressed to me, as they are my sole responsibility.
Important notice regarding
downloading: Some people have had trouble downloading the pdf documents.
Try another web browser if that happens to you, or contact me and I’ll send
them to you.
Latest news and planned
developments of these pages
The generic name of these pages have changed from Traffic to Transport, due to
my research moving into more general areas which have very little to do with
actual vehicles moving around.
040710 A new page has been added: The results from the fuel efficient driving project for bus drivers in a very condensed form in Swedish, plus the final report (also in Swedish) as a downloadable pdf-file. An english version of this material is available on the Past projects page.
050727 A new page has been added: Transport Company Safety. Here I give my views on the subject, which mainly are that there exist a lot of scientific knowledge which could be used for a substantial reduction of the number of accidents for professional drivers, given that the companies actually use this knowledge.
Late 2006 The traffic behavior research situation in Sweden is appalling. There is hardly any funding to get, and as the general higher education policy is to churn out as many PhDs as possible, the competion for money and employment is fierce. Therefore, I have started working for Lisa Dorn, Cranfield University, UK. However, further international cooperation would be welcomed.
070727 Some updates of papers. A new download added to Transport Company Safety. The first joint paper with Lisa Dorn will soon appear in Journal of Safety Research. Things are a bit slow right now...just waiting around for a tenure and doing odd work for Lisa Dorn. However, the upcoming conference on Driver Behaviour and Training will be a nice change. See www.dbt2007.com.
080102 No real news in this update of the pages, just a few more publications. Noteworthy may be the meta-analysis on differential truck accident risk by size, and the theory behind my celeration research. I am working on a book about traffic safety research, some chapters of which are available for download here. Also, a new paper about the Driver Behaviour Questionnaire is available for download. Otherwise, in this new year, I will break my own publication record from 2007 for journal papers.
081013 I now have a research position at the Dept for Psychology, and have the time to work hard on my book about traffic research methodology. I have also written some papers about social desirability effects in driver inventories. In general, my main research interest right now is methodology, due to the fact that most of the papers about individual differences in accident risk published today are of an unacceptable low quality. I will not let this continue. You have been warned...
090613 In November 2009, the next Driver Behaviour and Training conference will be held. http://www.dbt2009.com
On this occasion, I will
release my book about driver research methodology. I will also take the
opportunity to otherwise attack all and everyone regarding their research.
Furthermore, the first paper to have a critical
look at the Manchester Driver Behaviour Questionnaire has been accepted for
publication. More papers on this subject are in the pipeline.
090929 My book can now be purchased:
af Wåhlberg, A. E. (2009). Driver Behaviour and Accident
Research Methodology; Unresolved Problems. Aldershot: Ashgate.
http://www.ashgate.com/isbn/9780754670766
I am now running three evaluations of on-line driver education in England, and will put up a page about that as soon as time allow.
100429 I will soon be off to Cranfield University, UK, to teach on the MSc in Driver Behaviour and Education (www.cranfield.ac.uk/soe/postgraduatestudy/driver). This will be very interesting indeed.
100510 A very entertaining review of my book has been sent to me. You can see it here. It will probably appear in a journal with time, or at least so the book review editor tells me.
100601 Having returned from Cranfield, all would seem to ber vey well. The teaching was an enjoyable experience.
100610 A new section has been added under ’Current projects’; Evaluation projects.
