Puppet theatre is a useful tool for examining children's understanding of social interactions. As any adult who has watched a scary or tear-jerking film knows, drama can cause us to process the interactions we see as if they were real, including experiencing strong emotions, whether or not we know that the events portrayed are "real". An advantage of puppet theatre over, for example, screened films, is that children can also interact with the characters in the drama. This allows us to determine, for example, how children's judgements about the puppets' behaviour affect the way the children themselves interact with the puppets.
