| Our interest in pregnancy stems from recent evidence which shows that developmental trajectories can be permanently set during the prenatal period. We focus on whether the prenatal environment contributes to subsequent behavior problems in childhood. We use prospective cohorts launched in pregnancy and followed through childhood to examine whether a connection exists between prenatal exposure to neurotoxins and ADHD symptoms. We consider the role of maternal ADHD symptoms for her lifestyle choices. Data come from Sweden as well as from Denmark and Finland, which make up the Nordic Network on ADHD. We investigate predictors of maternal lifestyle during pregnancy and whether these factors are critical for later child health and thus have public health significance. Moreover, the ethical considerations are also investigated.
