Liila Taruffi, Durham University (UK): "Can music be used to regulate thoughts? Perspectives from research on mind-wandering and visual mental imagery during music listening."

Abstract
We know that music can evoke and regulate emotions, but its capability to influence conscious thought is yet to be systematically explored. Although some mental phenomena such as music-evoked autobiographical memories have received much attention from researchers, very little is known about other types of internally-oriented cognition, such as mind-wandering and visual mental imagery. In this talk, Dr. Liila Taruffi, lecturer in Music Psychology at Durham University, will (1) illustrate the relevance of these types of cognition for musical context, (2) present novel findings showing a strong relationship with emotion, and (3) highlight relevant implications for mental health and well-being.
