In a recently published meta-analysis in the Journal of Sleep Research, Alexander Rozental and colleagues have examined the effects of a common intervention for sleep problems – stimulus control. This includes, among other things, removing items from the bedroom and bed that are not related to sleep, such as not using the computer in bed. The article indicates that most studies in this field are old; however, the results suggest small yet meaningful effects on the time it takes to fall asleep and total sleep time. Nevertheless, more and more sophisticated studies are called for on the subject.
